Any 4th grader should be able to simply look at the problem below and tell you - without using a calculator or redoing the problem -  if it is right or wrong.  The size of the problem has no effect in accomplishing this simple exercise.

As you can see,  you didn't learn how to do this in school, although you should have been taught it.  I think you will agree, if all children knew how to be certain of answers, they would never turn in wrong answers on homework or tests!  This is a MAJOR application of math and it is missing from curricula.  It is not simply some minimally justified math trick .  It needs to be taught to children.
